POST 1 TER: A Cartoon by Patrick Chappatte - KEY ISSUE(S) in relation to the idea of progress

WHICH KEY ISSUE(S) DOES THIS CARTOON RAISE IN RELATION TO
THE IDEA OF PROGRESS?

The key issues raised in relation to the idea of progress in this cartoon are :

- Could the internet be a threat to culture and art?
OR
-Can the internet encourage culture and art?

- Is the younger generation really aware of illegal practices when it comes to culture on the internet?

- Does the internet epitomize the idea of progress or can we argue that it also shows its limits?

IN WHAT WAY COULD IT BE USED TO ILLUSTRATE IT?
The cartoonist uses humour to prove his point that is the internet, even it's synonyme of progress, incites people not to be honest. He takes the example of illegal downloading here. Indeed, thanks to the reference to a global culture events as Cannes Film Festival, and to the conversation between the young man and the actor/director/producer, Chappatte makes us sensitive about the new type of problems caused by the internet.
